Abstract:
Provided are a method for manufacturing a thermally expandable base material for a vehicle interior, specifically a method for manufacturing an interior material for a vehicle which is lightweight, sufficiently sound absorbable, and highly rigid, and a method for manufacturing a base material for a vehicle interior. A web (11) containing inorganic fibers, thermoplastic resin fibers or thermoplastic resin powder, and thermally expandable microcapsules is needled to produce a fiber mat (1). Thereafter, the fiber mat (1) is heated and thermally pressed at temperatures at which the thermoplastic resin fibers melt but which is lower than the thermal expansion starting temperature of the thermally expandable microcapsules, and the fiber mat (1) is cooled next, to manufacture the thermally expandable base material for a vehicle interior. Moreover, the base material is heated to be thermally expanded at temperatures higher than the thermal expansion starting temperature of the thermally expandable microcapsules, to manufacture the base material for a vehicle interior.
