Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a wheel bearing apparatus (10) provided with a flanged axle member (12) including an axle portion (11) disposed on one end of an axial direction and fitted with a rolling bearing (13), a fitting axle portion (24) disposed on the other end of the axial direction and fitted in a central opening of a wheel, a forged concave portion (25) formed in a face at the other end of the axial direction on an axle center (O) of the fitting axle portion (24), and a plurality of flange portions (27) extending radially outwardly from an outer peripheral surface between the axle portion (11) and the fitting axle portion (24) and disposed at intervals in a circumferential direction includes: a step of forming the flange portions (27) by lateral extrusion while forming the forged concave portion (25) with a forging die apparatus (70) for cold forging; and a step of performing a partial surface removal process at a specific portion on the inner surface of the forged concave portion (25) where shrinkage may be caused by the step of forming the flange portions (27).
