Abstract:
The present invention relates to: a method for manufacturing a white fine particle dispersion whereby a white ink is obtained that is capable of exhibiting excellent opacifying properties, abrasion resistance, and water resistance when printed on a recording medium even when the recording medium has low water absorbency, by inclusion of the white fine particle dispersion in the ink; and a water-based ink for inkjet recording that contains the white fine particles. [1] A method for manufacturing a white fine particle dispersion, having: a step 1 for mixing titanium oxide and a polymer dispersant at a pH equal to or greater than the acid dissociation exponent (pKa) of at least a portion of an acid component of the polymer dispersant and obtaining a titanium oxide dispersion, the isoelectric point (A) of the titanium oxide and the acid dissociation exponent (pKa) of the polymer dispersant (B) satisfying the relationship A – B ≥ 0, the polymer dispersant having constituent units derived from a hydrophobic monomer, and the median particle diameter (D50) of the titanium oxide dispersion being 150-500 nm; and a step 2 for adding a polymerizable monomer to the titanium oxide dispersion obtained in step 1 and performing polymerization, and obtaining a dispersion of white fine particles. [2] A water-based ink for inkjet recording containing the resultant white fine particles.
