Abstract:
Provided is a method for mass production of carotenoids in a stable manner, using a minute algae which is easily cultured and which proliferates rapidly. With this method it is possible to store, intracellularly, large quantities of carotenoids, by culturing species belonging to the Sphaeropleales order or the Trebouxiophyceae class, while imparting stress by irradiating same with light having an intensity of 500 to 2500μmol photons/m2/s for 150 to 500 hours.
