Abstract:
A tooth (10) is irradiated with isobestic lights of multiple wavelengths which
are not affected by the degree of oxygen saturation of hemoglobin. Then, a light
transmitted through the tooth (10) is received and the blood concentration and
the blood flow amount in the pulp cavity are determined while eliminating the
effects of light scattering and absorption caused by the tooth substances (the
enamel (12) and the dentin (14)). Further, the degree of oxygen saturation of
the blood in the pulp cavity is determined with the use of the attenuation in the
transmitted light observed by irradiating the tooth with the isobestic lights
not affected by the degree of oxygen saturation of hemoglobin and with non-isobestic
lights affected by the degree of oxygen saturation of hemoglobin and the total
hemoglobin level in the pulp cavity having been determined by the method as described
above. Thus, the blood concentration (hemoglobin concentration), blood flow
amount and degree of oxygen saturation of the blood in the pulp cavity can be noninvasively,
objectively and quantitatively measured even in bright light without paining
a patient.
