It is intended to provide a method of measuring the shell-closing force of pearl oyster (Pinctada fucata martensii) at a high treating efficiency and at a high accuracy and a method of managing pearl oyster farming by using the same. A method of measuring the shell-closing power of a pearl oyster which comprises measuring the force required in inserting an opener into the closed shells and thus opening the shells of the pearl oyster closing the mouth at such a width as not damaging the shell-closing muscle with the use of a load mater; and a method of managing pearl oyster farming which comprises measuring the shell-closing force of pearl oyster by using the above method and examining the health conditions of the pearl oyster based on the shell-closing force data thus obtained.
