Title:
METHOD OF MODIFYING OF SOLID WOOD
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2001/038056
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The method for modifying of massive wood is comparatively easy way to overcome the warp of the massive wood. On cutting of a layer of the massive wood the inner tensions in the wood are released. Having filled with a polymer a layer of a polymer and wooden prisms is obtained which already does not possess the previous inner tensions and does not allow to the wood, processed in this way, to warp.

Description:
METHOD OF MODIFYING OF SOLID WOOD Field of the techniques: The method for modifying of solid wood is applicable in wood processing industry.

Preceding state of the techniques: The familiar methods to me for processing of massive wood so far are: Grinding or cutting of shapeless pieces, polymer adding, pressing and obtaining of surfaces.

Technical essence: The technical effect of the method: it decreases deformations, decreases inner tensions, increases the solidity and improves the moisture resistance of the massive wood.

As it known the massive wood has a heterogeneous structure and different linear extensions in tangential, radial and longitudinal directions.

The method for modifying of massive wood decreases these differences.

The method for modifying of massive wood is consisted in the following: Cutting of the massive wood in sections with thickness from 0,000001 m to 0,03 m and in depth from 20% up to 99,5 % from the material depth at intervals of 0,001 m to 0,1 m in one direction and after that in the same way in the other one. The directions must be at least two but it is possible to be more. It is the best the angel between the section and the surface to be 90 degrees but it is possible to be other, unspecified from 15 to 90 degrees. It is important wooden prisms with regular or irregular shape and sections to be received in which the polymer to be put. We have different ways of its putting in the sections, depending on the polymer but when the polymer is put under high pressure it penetrates in the wood pores and the effect is better. One layer of massive wood is obtained in its natural shape and one layer of wooden prisms and polymer.

The advantages of a layer from wooden prisms and polymer are: * In the massive wood there are always inner tensions. In prism cutting these tensions are released.

A polymer grid is obtained which counteracts to warp and bending.

Water permeability is considerably decreased and protects from water penetrating.

Description of the figures attached: A piece of modified massive wood is shown on Figure 1 on which cuttings 1 are made, filled with polymer, among which wooden prisms 2 are formed. A layer of wooden prisms and polymer 3 is formed which counteracts to warp and bending caused by the rest layer 4 from unprocessed massive wood.

Examples: Example 1: Let us take a piece of dry massive wood with dimensions 0,20 m x 0,20 m x 0,02 m and cut it in sections with thickness 0,001and depth 0,01 m at intervals 0,01 m in one direction and after that in perpendicular to it.

Let us take the processed piece of massive wood and put it in a mould (made on the dimensions and forms of the massive wood). Let us take epoxy resin, add hardener and pour till filling of the cuttings.

It is proceed in the same way with polyester, polyurethane, carbamide- formaldehyde resins. (It is possible the mould to be closed and the resin to be put under pressure).

Example 2: Let us take a piece of dry massive wood with dimensions 0,20 m x 0,20 m x 0,02 m and cut it in sections with thickness 0,001and depth 0,01 m at intervals 0,01 m in one direction and after that in perpendicular to it.

Let us take the phenol-formaldehyde and melamine-formaldehyde resins. The piece of massive wood is immersed in them and is dried. After that is immersed again and is dried till filling of the sections, then pressing in a hot press under high pressure.

Example 3 Let us take a piece of dry massive wood with dimensions 0,20 m x 0,20 m x 0,02 m and cut it in sections with thickness 0, 00 land depth 0,01 m at intervals 0,01 m in one direction and after that in perpendicular to it.

The piece of massive wood is placed in a mould with plastic above and is pressed in a hot press under high pressure till filling of the sections. (It is possible the mould to be closed and the melted plastic to be put under pressure.

Example 4 Let us take a piece of dry massive wood with dimensions 0,20 m x 0,20 m x 0,02 m and cut it in sections with thickness 0,001and depth 0,01 m at intervals 0,01 m in one direction and after that in perpendicular to it.

The piece of massive wood is placed in a mould with rubber above and is pressed in a hot press under high pressure till filling of the sections.

Application of the method for modifying of massive wood: The method for modifying of massive wood is applicable in the wood processing industry for construction of parquet, floor, wall and ceiling coverings from wood, in building, for furniture make etc.
