Title:
METHOD FOR MOVING PAYLOADS IN THE ATMOSPHERE OF A PLANET AT VELOCITIES GREATER THAN ORBITAL VELOCITY AND HYPERSONIC AIRCRAFT FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2014/021742
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The group of inventions relates to aerospace engineering, and more particularly to hypersonic aircraft and methods for flying in the upper atmosphere at hypersonic velocities. For travel in the atmosphere (or close to the boundary thereof), the hypersonic aircraft is accelerated with the aid of rocket engines to a velocity greater than orbital velocity. The hypersonic aircraft is maintained in a near-circular orbit by means of aerodynamic downforce or the thrust of the rocket engines. The necessary energy (to heat the working fluid of the rocket engines) is supplied with the aid of directed-energy power stations. These power stations are located in space above the flight path of the hypersonic aircraft and provide, in sequence, energy (UHF or laser) to the aircraft, it being possible also for the beams from a plurality of power stations to be focused on the aircraft. The heating of the working fluid to generate thrust and the simultaneous cooling of the structure of the hypersonic aircraft is provided by means of the proposed variants for the aerodynamic design thereof and by means of the thermal protection (active and passive) of the hypersonic aircraft. The result is an increase in the velocities of near-space cargo and passenger flights with a reduction in the environmental impact thereof.
