Abstract:
The invention relates to the field of wildlife conservation, in particular to a method for observing a wildlife population by using remote sensing imaging. The method specifically comprises: a gray value of an image element of a remote sensing image being linearly related to the proportion of an orthographic projection area of an individual animal to the image element; calculating the proportion of an orthographic projection area of each individual animal to an image element area in each image element and summing to obtain a total orthographic projection area of a target animal population; and obtaining a specific wildlife population by dividing the measured orthographic projection area of the individual animal, thus resolving the issue in which it is difficult to observe wildlife populations and distribution patterns at the same time. According to the invention, satellite remote sensing imaging is used to observe animal populations and to obtain a specific population count at a single point in time, preventing the erroneous counting and estimations of conventional methods, and improving accuracy and reliability. Remote sensing imaging is used to observe an animal population, such that interference with animal behaviors and habitat destruction caused by close observation can be prevented, safety and cost-effectiveness of field observations are greatly increased, and a high application value is achieved.
