Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for obtaining female parent lines of the Asteraceae botanic family from hybrids, using the Helianthus annuus species as a model. The method according to the invention is based on the alteration of lines comprising the fertility restoring gene (Rf) obtained by self-fertilisation of the hybrids, in lines with normal cytoplasm and no Rf gene. Sterile male lines were then developed. The use of this methodology made it possible to obtain female lines from commercially available sunflower hybrids.
