Title:
METHOD FOR OSMIUM DISTILLATION INTO GAS PHASE FROM SULPHUR-ACID SLUDGE OF COPPER PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2004/029308
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The invention relates to rear-metal metallurgy and can be used for efficient osmium extraction from copper production waste material. The inventive method consists in pre-distilling organic components in a reducing medium from initial raw material in the form of an acid sludge of copper production. Afterwards, the distillation of metals, including osmium, is carried out by means of a hydrometallurgical method in reactors adding a diluted sulphuric acid and an oxidiser. Said metals, including osmium, pass into a gaseous phase and are retained by alkali absorbers. A remaining cake is granulated, dried at a temperature of 40-50 °C and heated at a temperature of 450-500 °C in a shaft furnace, i.e. at relatively low temperatures in order to prevent a cake sintering. Said invention makes it possible to carry out the selective and highly efficient osmium extraction (to 98%) into the gaseous phase from the copper production waste material which is barren of that component.
