Abstract:
Provided is a method for oxidizing polymers. Said method does not require cumbersome post-reaction isolation and purification, is applicable to a wide variety of polymers such as high-molecular-weight polymers, and provides a sufficient conversion rate under milder reaction conditions. The method is characterized by including: a step that creates a powder reaction phase by mixing a powdered polymer with a water-soluble solid catalyst and at least one oxidant selected from a group comprising hydrogen peroxide solution, carbamide peroxide, and percarbonate; a step in which the aforementioned reaction phase is let sit at a reaction temperature no greater than 80°C; and a step in which the reaction phase is washed in water after being let sit.
