Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for physically separating a light metal from a metal mixture, wherein the light metal is at least one of an aluminium metal, a magnesium metal, and an aluminium magnesium alloy; the aluminium metal is elemental aluminium and/or an aluminium alloy; and the magnesium metal is a magnesium alloy. The separation method comprises: a) charging water, and a liquid state bromide having a specific gravity greater than that of a light metal into a separating container to form a double layer liquid state medium with an upper layer of the water and a lower layer of the liquid state bromide; and b) charging a metal mixture into the double layer liquid state medium, such that the light metal floats on the surface of the liquid state bromide layer and the remaining metals sink to the bottom of the liquid state bromide, thereby achieving the separation of the light metal. The physical separation method is both safe and reliable, and environmentally friendly; and is simple to operate and to achieve on a large scale.
