The present application relates to a technology presenting two routes for providing a chlorous acid source to be used when disinfection or a hygienic/purifying treatment is required because of an environment in which an indoor or outdoor hygienic state has deteriorated into a poor state, or when a disinfection, sterilization or bacterial eradication function is required during food storage or a water purification process, thereby broadening the application field by selectively obtaining chlorine dioxide sources according to on-site conditions. The present application relates to a method for providing a chlorine dioxide source in order to obtain chlorine dioxide (ClO2) by using a chlorite salt as a starting material, the method being applied so as to obtain a chlorine dioxide (ClO2) aqueous solution through selection from: application (route 1) such that component A comprising liquid silicates and chlorite salts and composition B comprising organic/inorganic acids are separately stored and, if necessary, the components A and B are mixed so as to obtain an aqueous solution containing chlorine dioxide (ClO2); or application (route 1) such that a pure chlorine dioxide (ClO2) aqueous solution containing no metal salts is obtained by allowing a chlorite salt, which is diluted with water, to pass through a cation exchange resin.
