Abstract:
The present invention relates to a functional composition having effects of reducing body weight and body fat, and to a method of mass-producing a plant sterol ferment using a strain of Nocardia sp. (NES115), which produces cholesterol oxidase that provides excellent biological activity, wherein the method comprises the step of fermenting plant cholesterol by adding 0.5-10% of plant cholesterol into a culture medium of cholesterol oxydase produced from the strain of Nocardia sp. (NES115) to allow the plant cholesterol to react with the culture medium. According to the method, the plant cholesterol ferment, which is effective in reducing neutral fat and cholesterol as well as in promoting weight loss, is mass-produced, thereby enabling the plant sterol ferment to be commercialized as a weight loss supplement which is effective for weight loss and reducing body fat.
