Abstract:
The present invention relates to a carotenoid-containing nano-diamond composition having dispersibility, uniformity, and stability by allowing poorly water-soluble carotenoid to be adsorbed onto surfaces of nano-diamonds dispersed in a hydrophilic solvent. The present invention provides a composition wherein carotenoid (astaxanthin), which is insoluble in water and present in aggregate, is adsorbed onto nanodiamonds to increase dispersibility thereof in a hydrophilic solvent, such as water. In the composition containing carotenoid (astaxanthin) and nanodiamonds of the present invention, carotenoid (astaxanthin) is adsorbed onto nanodiamonds, and thus carotenoid can be present in the composition for a long time without being easily denatured by heat, oxygen, or light. That is, when the composition of the present invention is used as a cosmetic material, a surfactant is not used, or even if the surfactant is used, the use amount thereof can be decreased, and therefore, a skin-friendly natural cosmetic material can be provided. The cosmetic composition of the present invention allows carotenoid (astaxanthin) to be stably dispersed and maintained for a long time, and therefore, can exhibit inherent functions and color (antioxidative characteristics and red color) of carotenoid (astaxanthin) for a long time.
