Abstract:
A method for preparing a liquid crystalline thin film having no supporting substrate film, which comprises attaching a liquid crystalline substance layer having fixedly oriented liquid crystals formed on an orientation substrate onto a releasable substrate comprising a saponification-treated triacetyl cellulose film via an adhesive, releasing the orientation substrate to transfer the liquid crystalline substance layer onto the releasable substrate, and then releasing the releasable substrate. The method has allowed the preparation of a liquid crystalline thin film having no supporting substrate film which exhibits satisfactory mechanical strength and releasability during the preparation thereof and is easy to inspect its optical defects.
