Title:
METHOD FOR PREPARING ULTRA-HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT POLYMER AT ROOM TEMPERATURE THROUGH EMULSION POLYMERIZATION
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2018/120526
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The invention discloses a method for preparing an ultra-high molecular weight polymer at room temperature through emulsion polymerization and belongs to the field of polymer synthesis. The method comprises the following steps: taking persulfate as an initiator, water as a medium, anionic surfactant as an emulsifier, sodium bicarbonate as a pH regulator, and styrene-(meth)acrylate polymer or vinyl acetate monomer as a monomer; performing a polymerization reaction for 1-6 hours under room temperature and normal pressure, thereby successfully obtaining the ultra-high molecular weight polymer with a weight average molecular weight of more than 100×104 g/mol, wherein the monomer conversion rate reaches 85% or higher. The polymerization system is simple and stable. Due to the use of commercially available raw materials, polymerization costs are greatly reduced. Operation is easy, reaction conditions are mild and impact on the environment is lessened. The reaction does not require temperature control or increased pressure. Energy consumption is low. Reaction times are short and the monomer conversion rate is high. The obtained ultra-high molecular weight polymer has a high molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution, and the molecular weight is regulated within a wider range.
