Provided is a method for producing a 4,4'-diformyldiphenylalkane represented by formula (2) by formylating a diphenylalkane represented by formula (1) by means of carbon monoxide in the presence of hydrogen fluoride and boron trifluoride, wherein the formylation reaction temperature is in the range of -50-5°C inclusive, there are 5-30 moles inclusive of hydrogen fluoride for every mole of the diphenylalkane, and there are 1.5-5 moles inclusive of boron trifluoride for every mole of the diphenylalkane. (In the formulae, R is an alkanediyl group having 1-6 carbon atoms.)
