Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a method for producing acrylic acid capable of improving the yield of acrylic acid and lengthening the service life of a catalyst in a method in which acrylic acid is produced by gas-phase catalytic oxidation of acrolein. [Solution] A production method in which a gas that contains acrolein is supplied to a fixed-bed reactor filled with catalysts of different activities such that two or more catalyst layers are formed in the axial direction of a reaction tube, and the acrolein is subjected to gas-phase catalytic oxidation to produce acrylic acid, wherein: the catalyst X having the highest activity among the catalysts packed in all of the catalyst layers is disposed in some or all of a region up to 30% of the length of all of the catalyst layers from the gas-outlet-side rearmost portion toward the gas-inlet side of all of the catalyst layers; the catalytic activity component x in the catalyst X has Mo and V and, optionally, Cu; when Cu is included, the Cu content is 0.8 mol or less per 12 mol of Mo; and the specific surface area of the catalytic activity component x is 15 m2/g-40 m2/g.
