Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a highly cost-effective method for producing an activated carbon adsorbent, wherein, in activated carbon derived from a phenolic resin, an activated carbon adsorbent capable of quickly adsorbing nitrogen-containing low-molecular compounds can be easily produced in a simple process by improving the resin composition and increasing the proportion of macropores in pores generated in a resin carbide. [Solution] The present invention provides a method for producing a composite phenolic resin containing novolac and resol resins, the method comprising: a novolac resin synthesis step for preparing a novolac resin component by mixing phenol, formaldehyde, an acidic catalyst, and an emulsifier under applied heat; a composite phenolic resin preparation step for preparing a composite phenolic resin, which also contains the novolac resin component, while synthesizing a resol resin component by adding formaldehyde and a basic catalyst under applied heat to a solution obtained by the novolac resin synthesis step; a carbonization step for carbonizing the composite phenolic resin to obtain a resin carbide; and an activation step for activating the resin carbide to obtain an activated carbon adsorbent.
