Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a method for producing an alcohol and a method for producing a catalyst for alcohol production with which it is possible to selectively obtain a target long-chain C8-22 alcohol in one step using a synthetic gas as the raw material. [Solution] A method for producing a C8-22 alcohol, the method including the following steps. Step 1: a step for obtaining a bimodal carrier by forming a porous layer on the surface of a porous material having a pore size mode of 30-200 nm; step 2: a step for supporting cobalt on the bimodal carrier obtained in step 1 and obtaining a catalyst having peaks in pore distribution in each of the 1-25 nm range and the 30-200 nm range; step 3: a step for reacting carbon monoxide and hydrogen at a gauge pressure of 2-100 MPa in the presence of the catalyst obtained in step 2.
