Abstract:

The present invention pertains to a method for producing alkali cellulose in which the cellulose polymerization degree decreases little and in which few bases are used. The present invention also pertains to a method for producing cellulose ether using the obtained alkali cellulose. [1] A method for producing alkali cellulose involving: a step (1) for obtaining a cellulose-containing starting material (II) containing cellulose having a crystallinity degree of 10 to 55% by processing a cellulose-containing starting material (I) with a pulverizer; and a step (2) for obtaining alkali cellulose by adding to the obtained cellulose-containing starting material (II) 0.6 to 1.5 mol of a basic compound per 1 mol of an anhydroglucose unit constituting the cellulose in the cellulose-containing starting material (II) and by adding 20 to 100 mass % of water to the cellulose. [2] A method for producing cellulose ether by means of the reaction between the alkali cellulose produced in the aforementioned production method and an etherification agent.
