Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a method for producing an aromatic dihydroxy compound with which a hydroquinone can be produced with high selectivity while maintaining high yield in terms of hydrogen peroxide and suppressing solvent-originating by-products when a phenol is reacted with hydrogen peroxide. [Solution] This method for producing an aromatic dihydroxy compound involves reacting a phenol with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of titanosilicate, a C4-5 alcohol including tertiary or quaternary carbons, and 5-90 mass% of water and/or methanol with respect to the total mass of the reaction solution.
