Abstract:
The present invention synthesizes ε-caprolactam from 5-cyanovaleramide with high yield by means of the steps (A) and (B) described below. (A) a step for obtaining 5-cyanovaleramide hydrogenation reaction mixture by causing 5-cyanovaleramide to react with hydrogen in an aqueous solvent in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst
(B) a step for obtaining ε-caprolactam by heating the 5-cyanovaleramide hydrogenation reaction mixture, which has been obtained in the step (A), to a temperature of from 180°C to 300°C in an aqueous solvent
