Title:
METHOD FOR PRODUCING CARBON MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2012/118151
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention is a method for producing a carbon material for reduction for refining of ion or a nonferrous metal, a carbon material for structures, a carbon material for electrical materials, or a carbon material that is used as a starting material for the foregoing carbon materials. The method comprises: an ash-free coal production step (S1) wherein coal is modified with use of a solvent so as to produce ash-free coal that is modified coal; an ash-free coal heating step (S2) wherein the ash-free coal produced in the ash-free coal production step (S1) is subjected to a heat treatment so as to produce modified ash-free coal that has a volatile matter content (VM) of 40% by mass or less; a molding step (S3) wherein the modified ash-free coal produced in the ash-free coal heating step (S2) is used as a main component of a molding material and molded so as to produce a molded body that has an apparent specific gravity of 0.9 g/cm3 or more; and a carbonization step (S4) wherein the molded body produced in the molding step (S3) is subjected to a carbonization treatment so as to obtain a carbon material. Consequently, a high-purity carbon material having an extremely low ash content concentration can be economically obtained, said carbon material being dense and free from deformation.
