Abstract:
Provided is a method for producing a carboxyl-group-containing polymer composition that is excellent in all of dispersibility to water etc. immediately after production, storage stability, and transparency in a neutralized viscous liquid. Disclosed is a method for producing a carboxyl-group-containing polymer composition that comprises: (A) a carboxyl-group-containing polymer which is a copolymer of monomers comprising (a-1) an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid and (a-2) a compound that includes at least two ethylenically unsaturated groups in the molecule thereof; and (B) a nonionic surfactant. The method for producing said carboxyl-group-containing polymer composition comprises a step for copolymerizing said monomers. In said step, said nonionic surfactant (B) is added to the system when the polymerization rate of said α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid (a-1) has reached 70-100%.
