Abstract:
In order to increase the coverage ratio of gold on the surface of platinum or a platinum alloy in the production of a catalyst containing carrier particles that support a gold-modified platinum or platinum alloy, disclosed is a method for producing a catalyst containing carrier particles that support a gold-modified platinum or platinum alloy, said method containing a gold-reducing step for adding the carrier particles that support platinum or a platinum alloy, a reducing agent, and a gold precursor to a liquid medium and mixing, and in the gold-reducing step, the aforementioned reducing agent is added in a manner so that the ORP value (oxidation-reduction potential using a silver/silver chloride electrode as a reference) of the aforementioned liquid medium when adding is complete is -630 to +230 mV.
