Abstract:
A method for producing chlorine by oxidizing hydrogen chloride with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst, wherein the catalyst satisfies the following conditions (i) and (ii). (i) The BET specific surface area is within the range of 1-250 m2/g. (ii) When the half width of the peak of the pore distribution curve as determined by a mercury intrusion method is represented by H and the average pore diameter is represented by D, the value H/D is within the range of 0.6-1.5.
