The present invention is a method for producing a compressed powder compact, employing a coated soft magnetic powder that comprises a plurality of coated soft magnetic particles of soft magnetic particles coated on the outer perimeter by an insulating film; and comprises a starting material preparation step, and a surface treatment step. In the starting material preparation step, a starting material compact of compression-molded coated soft magnetic powder is prepared. In the surface treatment step, a portion of the surface of the starting material compact undergoes electrolytic treatment. Through electrolytic treatment of a portion of the surface of the starting material compact, a conducting portion in which conduction takes place among constituent materials of the plurality of soft magnetic particles at the surface of the starting material compact can be eliminated, and loss of the compressed powder compact can be reduced.
