Abstract:
Provided is a method for producing a specific copolymer which essentially contains both of a structural unit derived from an unsaturated polyalkylene glycol ether monomer and a structural unit derived from an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid monomer, whereby it becomes possible to produce the copolymer stably when water for polymerization use which contains little impurities is provided by a pure water production step and is used. A method for producing a copolymer according to the present invention is a method for producing a specific copolymer, and is characterized by comprising a pure water production step of producing pure water having an electric conductivity of 0.1 to 100 μS/cm, a pure water transfer step of introducing the pure water into a reaction kettle for producing the copolymer through a transfer pipe made from a resin or a substance capable of forming passivation in water, and a polymerization step of carrying out the polymerization of the monomer (a), the monomer (b) and the monomer (c) in the reaction kettle, wherein, in the pure water transfer step, the electric conductivity of the pure water is adjusted to 0.1 to 100 μS/cm at a place at which the pure water is introduced on the reaction kettle side from the transfer pipe.
