Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a method capable of producing a diaminobiphenyl compound at a higher yield and in a short time in a benzidine rearrangement reaction of hydrazobenzene having a bulky substituent at the meta-position; and in particular, to provide a method capable of producing 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4'-diaminobiphenyl at high yield and efficiency by subjecting 3,3'-bis(trifluoromethyl)hydrazobenzene having a trifluoromethyl group at the meta-position to a benzidine rearrangement reaction. [Solution] Provided is a method for producing a diaminobiphenyl compound represented by formula (1) (in formula (1), X1 and X2 are each independently a trifluoromethyl group, and a group selected from among, an isopropyl group, an isobutyl group, a sec-butyl group, a tert-butyl group, and a neopentyl group which are optionally fluorinated), the method comprising a step for subjecting a diphenyl hydrazine compound represented by formula (2) (in formula (2), X1 and X2 are the same as above) to a benzidine rearrangement reaction in the presence of an organic solvent and an inorganic acid, in a temperature range of -70 °C to -11 °C to obtain the diaminobiphenyl compound represented by formula (1).
