Abstract:
A method of synthesizing a diol or a polydiol by reductively coupling carbonyl compounds in a solvent with the use of 12CaO.7Al2O3 having 1019 cm-3 or more but not more than 2.3x1021 cm-3 electrons per cage as a reducing agent. A method of synthesizing a secondary alcohol or diketone compound by reductively coupling ketone compounds in a solvent. According to these methods, a diol, polydiol, secondary alcohol or diketone compound can be synthesized within a short period of time by an easy procedure without resorting to costly and harmful metal hydrides or metal salts and without being restricted to an inert gas atmosphere as in the existing methods.
