Abstract:

Provided is a method for producing ditrimethylolpropane characterized by the following (1) and (2): (1) a ditrimethylolpropane-containing liquid in which the amounts of contained bis-TMP and tri-TMP are each a predetermined amount is obtained by redistillation under specific conditions of a distillation still residue obtained when purified trimethylolpropane is separated; and (2) when the ditrimethylolpropane-containing liquid is subjected to crystallization from an organic solvent, the crystallization is initiated under pressure at a temperature exceeding the boiling point at normal pressure of the organic solvent and cooling is performed at a rate of 2ºC/min or less. According to the production method, high-purity ditrimethylolpropane can be industrially advantageously produced by a simple method from a distillation still residue obtained when trimethylolpropane is produced.
