As a method of producing a dust core in which the Fe content in a Fe-base alloy composition is greater than or equal to 79.5 at% and which, even when the content of amorphizing elements is low, is not prone to problems resulting from crystallization of the amorphous phase in a soft magnetic powder, this method, for producing a dust core containing a soft magnetic powder that comprises a Fe-base alloy composition which is represented by the compositional formula FeaSibBcPdXe (wherein a + b + c + d + e = 100 at% and X is any additional element) and which satisfies the composition conditions 79.5 at% ≦ a ≦ 80.5 at%, 1.8 at% ≦ b ≦ 6×α at%, 0.5 at% ≦ c ≦ 13.5×α at%, 4.5 at% ≦ d ≦ 14×α at%, 0 at% ≦ e ≦ (1-α)×(b+c+d), and 0.8 ≦ α ≦ 1.0, is characterized in by involving a molding step for hot press molding a mixed powder body that contains the aforementioned soft magnetic powder and a binder, and an annealing step for annealing the molded product obtained in the molding step; in the molding step, the pressure force is 400 MPa or greater, the atmosphere is inert, and the temperature during pressurization is 465°C to 520°C; in annealing step, the atmosphere is inert and the annealing temperature is 390°C to 430°C.
