Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for producing ethanol whereby ethanol can be synthesized using, as a starting material, a biomass material which can hardly be fermented such as grasses, woods or rice straw or an industrial waste biomass material such as construction woods or pulp so that the range of starting materials for the production of ethanol can be broadened. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing ethanol comprising reacting a starting gas material, which is obtained by thermochemical gasification of a biomass, with rhodium and at least one transition metal in the presence of a catalyst comprising at lease one element selected from among lithium, magnesium and zinc.
