Abstract:
Provided are: a method for producing a glass member, whereby it becomes possible to readily produce a glass member in which the optical properties of a glass are varied; and a glass member. The method for producing a glass member (1) according to the present invention involves a first step of carrying out the plasma etching of the surface of a glass base material, which contains at least one element selected from an alkali metal, an alkali earth metal and a rare earth, with a fluorine-containing gas. According to the method, a fluoride layer (4) is formed on the surface of the glass base material during the first step, the fluoride layer (4) serves as a mask, and a part covered with the mask remains unetched and forms a convex part (3) having the fluoride layer (4) formed at the tip part thereof. Therefore, it becomes possible to readily produce the glass member (1), of which the optical properties are varied, only by a plasma etching treatment.
