Abstract:

Provided is a method for producing a Guerbet alcohol that improves the conversion rate and yield without requiring the use of a solvent. A method for producing a Guerbet alcohol having the following step 1 through step 3 in that order. Step 1: A step that prepares a liquid composition containing an aliphatic alcohol and a base. Step 2: A step that holds the liquid composition at 100-180°C and brings the water content in the liquid composition to less than 0.28 mass%. Step 3: A step that brings the liquid composition to over 180°C.
