Abstract:
A method for producing hexafluoro-1,3-butadiene is provided by which hexafluoro-1,3-butadiene can be produced in a yield on an industrially sufficient level. In a liquid reaction mixture comprising a halogenated butane represented by the chemical formula CF2X1-CFX2-CFX3-CF2X4 (where X1, X2, X3, and X4 each independently represent an atom of a halogen other than fluorine), zinc, and an organic solvent, a reaction is conducted to eliminate the non-fluorine halogen atoms X1, X2, X3, and X4 from the halogenated butane, thereby yielding hexafluoro-1,3-butadiene. During this reaction, the concentration in the liquid reaction mixture of the zinc halide which has been yielded by the reaction is kept being not higher than the solubility of the zinc halide in the organic solvent.
