Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for producing a high-purity quaternary ammonium salt, which is characterized in that (1) an oxide or hydroxide of a group 1, 2, 12 or 13 metal is added into a quaternary ammonium salt which contains a protonic acid salt of a tertiary amine as an impurity, thereby neutralizing the protonic acid salt of a tertiary amine with the oxide or hydroxide of the metal and converting the protonic acid salt into a tertiary amine and water, while converting the oxide or hydroxide of the metal into a metal salt; and then (2) the thus-produced tertiary amine, water and metal salt are removed from the system.
