Abstract:
Provided is a method for producing honeycomb structures that can flexibly accommodate changes in the outer diameter of honeycomb moldings with through holes that are to be plugged and can easily produce honeycomb structures in which desired through holes have been plugged without generating defective plugs. The method for producing honeycomb structures comprises: a process of disposing a mask (170) having multiple openings (171) on an end face of a cylindrical honeycomb molding (70) having multiple through holes (71) so that the multiple openings (171) respectively face the multiple through holes (71) of the honeycomb molding (70), and of disposing a ring (270) having an inner diameter substantially equal to the outer diameter of the honeycomb molding (70) on the surface of the mask (170) on the side opposite the honeycomb molding (70) side so as to cover the openings (171) of the mask (170) that are positioned to the outside of the outer circumference of the honeycomb molding (70); and a process of supplying a plugging material to the inside of the ring (270) and filling the plugging material into the through holes (71) of the honeycomb molding (70) through the openings (171) of the mask (170).
