Title:
METHOD FOR PRODUCING INDIUM METAL, MOLTEN SALT ELECTROLYTIC CELL, AND METHOD FOR PURIFYING LOW MELTING POINT METAL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2011/071151
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for producing indium metal, wherein an indium metal-containing alloy is used as the positive electrode, indium metal is used as the negative electrode and indium chloride-zinc chloride molten salt that is mainly composed of indium chloride is used as the electrolyte, so that indium is released from the positive electrode in the form of positive ions and indium metal is electrodeposited on the negative electrode by molten salt electrolysis. In the indium chloride-zinc chloride molten salt, the indium chloride content is not less than 68% by weight and the water content is not more than 0.5% by weight.
