Abstract:
A method for producing a liquid crystal display element with use of a liquid crystal composition containing a polar compound that has a polymerizable group, which prevents damage to the constituent compounds in the composition by optimizing the energy amount for polymerization, and which enables the efficient impartation of a pretilt angle. According to the present invention, when a liquid crystal display element that comprises a pair of substrates, which have no alignment film and are arranged to face each other, and a liquid crystal layer which is formed between the substrates as an electrode group formed on one or both facing surfaces of the pair of substrates, said liquid crystal layer being composed of a liquid crystal composition containing a liquid crystal compound and polymerizable compounds at least one of which is a compound having a polar anchor group, is produced, an alignment control layer is formed by reacting the polymerizable compounds under such conditions where the ratio of the accumulated amount of light of 313 nm to the accumulated amount of light of 254 nm, namely (313 nm/254 nm) is 10 or more.
