Abstract:
Provided is a method for producing a low molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene with a reduced content of a C6-14 perfluoro carboxylic acid and of a salt thereof. The method for producing low molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene is characterized by including : a step (1) in which a high molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene is exposed to radiation to obtain a low molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene with a melt viscosity of 1.0x102 - 7.0x105Pa.s at 380°C; and a step (2) in which the obtained low molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene is exposed to a radiation dose such that said low molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene does not decompose.
