Abstract:

A method for producing a metal formed article which comprises laying a formed article (2a) of a second metal in a powder (1) comprising a first metal, to form a powder formed product (3a), heating the formed product to a temperature lower than the melting point of the first metal and not lower than the melting point of the second metal, to thereby melt the formed article (2a) and allow it to move into voids in the powder formed product, resulting in the formation of a space (4), subjecting both the metals to sintering and solidification, and forming a coating layer (6) on the surface of the space (4) with an intermatallic compound or an alloy of both the metals, wherein when the coating layer (6) is of an intermetallic compound, the first metal is one of Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta, W and an alloy of these elements and the second metal is Al, or the first metal is one of Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta, W and an alloy of these elements and the second metal is Si, or the first metal is Cu or an alloy thereof and the second metal is Sn, and when the coating layer (6) is of an alloy, the first metal is Al or an alloy thereof and the second metal is Zn. The method can be advantageously used for producing a metal formed article having a space in the interior thereof.
