Abstract:
A method for producing a metal material, which comprises: a slurry supply step wherein a slurry that contains TiO2 particles is supplied to the surface of a metal base material; and a heat treatment step wherein the base material, to which the slurry has been supplied, is subjected to a heat treatment in an atmosphere that has an oxygen partial pressure of 10-2 Pa or less, thereby forming a titanium oxide layer on the base material, said titanium oxide layer containing a TiOx (0 < x < 2) phase as the main phase. It is preferable that the base material is heat-treated at a temperature of 650°C or higher in the heat treatment step. By this production method, a metal material that has a titanium oxide layer, which contains a TiOx (0 < x < 2) phase as the main phase, on a base material is able to be obtained with high productivity.
