Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for producing a metal oxide catalyst which is preferably used when acrylic acid or acrylonitrile is produced at high yield by single-step contact oxidation of propane. The method is characterized by using metal tellurium fine particles as the raw material for the oxide catalyst composed of metal elements Mo-V-Nb-Te, which metal tellurium fine particles are obtained by reducing a Te compound with a reducing agent. The metal tellurium fine particles are preferably composed of primary particles having a particle diameter of not more than 4.0 μm. By using a metal oxide obtained by such a method, acrylic acid can be produced from propane by a single-step oxidation process at a high yield not less than 40%.
