Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for producing methionine that takes environmental considerations into account. The production method according to the present invention comprises: a removal step for blowing an inert gas into a liquid containing 5-(2-methylmercaptoethyl)hydantoin, thereby causing the emission of ammonia that remains in the liquid so as to obtain exhaust gas containing the ammonia; and a recovery step for recovering the ammonia contained in the exhaust gas by bringing the exhaust gas into contact with a wash liquid.
