METHOD FOR PRODUCING MODIFIED POLYTETRAFLUOROETHYLENE MOLDINGS BY JOINT MOLDING

A method for producing modified polytetrafluoroethylene moldings which comprises providing a first pre-molded modified polytetrafluoroethylene part having an inner closed joint surface including a curved part and a second pre-molded modified polytetrafluoroethylene part having an outer joint surface having the shape fitted to that of the afore mentioned inner joint surface, expanding the first pre-molded modified polytetrafluoroethylene part with heat up to the extent such that the inner joint surface thereof becomes equal to or larger than the outer joint surface of the second pre-molded modified polytetrafluoroethylene part, placing the second pre-molded modified polytetrafluoroethylene part at the inside of the first pre-molded part in a manner wherein corresponding curved surfaces of the two parts are opposed to each other, and subjecting the pre-molded parts to sintering, to thereby join the parts at the joint surfaces thereof and produce a one-piece molded article. This method allows the production of a very large molded article made of modified polytetrafluoroethylene and having a joint portion satisfactorily strongly bonded.
