Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for producing a solution that contains nickel and cobalt with high purity by more efficiently and easily separating nickel and cobalt from a positive electrode material of a used nickel hydrogen battery or a positive electrode material discarded during the production.
This method is characterized by obtaining a nickel-containing acidic solution by processing a positive electrode material of a nickel hydrogen battery in: a water washing step wherein the positive electrode material of the nickel hydrogen battery is water washed by adding water thereto and then a positive electrode material after water washing and a water washing slurry are obtained by separation; an acid pickling step wherein an acid is added to and mixed with the positive electrode material after water washing obtained in the water washing step and the resulting mixture is separated into a positive electrode material after acid pickling and a solution after acid pickling, while maintaining the pH of the mixture within the range from 0.0 to 3.5 (inclusive); and a dissolution step wherein both or one of an acid and an oxidant is added to the positive electrode material after acid pickling obtained in the acid pickling step, thereby separating the positive electrode material after acid pickling into a nickel dissolved solution and a leaching residue.
